The traditional factory LEMGRUBER, for more than 60 years in the Brazilian market, has a history with much effort and dedication of a family.

Everything began with the initiative Áttila LEMGRUBER Portugal who, in 1937, got into the Amazon Forest to obtain the latex for industrialization. He transformed his farm in Rio de Janeiro in the first industry in Brazil to produce goods derivative of latex. The Brazilian history has been close related to this raw material since then.

In 1939, after many researches and tests, finally Mr. Áttila L. Portugal founded LEMGRUBER.

The first product to be produced was the latex condom, what, at that time, caused a great opposition of the Church.

In 1941, foreseeing the future market, LEMGRUBER started its production line of SURGICAL GLOVES.

LEMGRUBER has already had more than 150 products in its production lines: from gloves to toys , a wide range of options.

About 1958 PLASTIC surges, which represented a strong competition for rubber, forcing LEMGRUBER to reduce in 10 % the products produced and search for its specialization.

But, the Latex has a great advantage on the plastic: it is the only product in the world 100 % elastic and almost indestructible, although it is BIODEGRADABLE, what doesn’t happen to the Plastic. Due to this , a lot of products shall be made of Natural Rubber, such as airplanes tires and Surgical Gloves.

With the surge of Plastic, LEMGRUBER restructure itself. It assumes a more professional feature, more entrepreneurial, turned to the medial area.

In the 60s LEMGRUBER had serious problems, but the ideal strength was bigger and it made that the trademark LEMGRUBER stronger.

At the 1964 Revolution time, the plant was taken by communists and soon after regained. But the 60s was marked mainly by three accidents :

1. The rupture of the Reservoir Dam, that totally flooded the plant, that only was recovered thanks to the community attitude, that were mobilized so that LEMGRUBER could be able to work again.

2. The Farm House was famous for its paintings by applauded French artists. The attic was used as warehouse for the whole production of LEMGRUBER. A fire destroyed not only the supply , but also the house and its renowned pieces of art.

3. A strong storm flooded the whole plant and LEMGRUBER was forced, once more, to restart from the very beginning.

In the 70s, LEMGRUBER starts its modernization process: its the end of the manual process. It develops its own solutions, investing ion its own researchers and engineers. It also begins an excellent publicizing work through television, strengthening more and more the trademark LEMGRUBER.

In the 80s, with the first cases of AIDS, LEMGRUBER started to invest more and more in researches to produce gloves with the highest quality control.

The multinationals start to enter into Brazilian market. LEMGRUBER dedicates more and more to produce the best in the surgical area because the competitiveness increased too much.

But, for the first time since its foundation LEMGRUBER lost the market leadership. At the same time, in Europe, almost all latex industries are closed. In the 90s, two facts had a strong impact:

1. The market opening with the reduction in importation aliquots

2. Malaysia, at the same time, started its project Malaysia 2000, that aimed, in 10 years, to give up exporting Latex as raw material and to start exporting its products already manufactured.

LEMGRUBER, on the other hand, tries to become more modern, transforming all its production line to 100% automated.

Within that, the Aids boom makes the concept of disposable goods stronger.

With the new relation more production and less cost, LEMGRUBER sets again the competitiveness and goes back to MARKET LEADERSHIP

LEMGRUBER, aiming to keep the high control and quality levels, associates to Asian countries for a technological interchange .The Asian countries (mainly Malaysia, which is the most developed one) form the main Technology Center on Latex research .
