TYPES OF LATEX ALLERGIC REACTIONS
Irritant Contact Dermatitis: it's the most common reaction - development of dry and irritated areas on the skin.
Allergic Contact Dermatitis: reactions usually begin within some hours later and may develop to oozing skin blisters or spread away on the area of skin touched by latex.
Latex Allergy: it can be the most serious of the three. The latex proteins may cause sensitization. Reactions may begin within minutes or hours later after the exposure. They may cause from rash skin to more serious respiratory symptoms. Rarely shock may occur.
There are people with latex allergy who present allergy associated to some components found in some fruits (kiwi, tomato, mango and avocado). On eating these fruits, the allergic reaction increases if the person is sensitive to the latex proteins. |
